Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Reveals Upcoming Changes to Beta

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 developer Treyarch Studios has released a list of changes that fans can expect to see roll out for the game’s beta this weekend, which includes highly requested adjustments to the game’s time-to-kill (TTK), doors, weapon XP, and more. Early access to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta kicked off on October 2, and it hasn’t taken Treyarch long to hear the feedback loud and clear, as a new update is live now with more adjustments set for the coming days.

Those eager to go hands-on with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be pleased to know there are multiple ways to access the beta. The easiest way is to simply wait until October 5, which is when the official open beta will kick off for players around the world. Or, for those who are a little more impatient, pre-ordering Black Ops 7 will grant early access to the beta right now. Activision is also making it easier than ever to get early access to the beta this year, as there are numerous promotions with the likes of Xfinity for fans in the US, EE for those in the UK, or by watching select Twitch streams for a designated amount of time.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta Update Will Tweak TTK

The Black Ops 7 beta has only been live for 24 hours, but Treyarch Studios has already released a brand-new update with UI and stability improvements. But the best is still to come, as the developer has confirmed that a more significant update will be released this weekend with adjustments to TTK, doors, weapon XP, and more. The former of the bunch has been a huge talking point over the last 24 hours, which has led Treyarch to announce a new weapon balancing pass that will release in the coming days. The studio says the changes will “adjust TTK and ensure all weapons available in the beta are competitive within both their class and their intended role within Black Ops 7.”

Another big change set for this weekend is a reduction in how quickly automatic doors close on Black Ops 7‘s maps. Alongside TTK, the automatic doors found in Black Ops 7 have been another huge talking point. While Treyarch removed the controversial manual doors from previous entries, their replacement has been less than favorable. Thankfully, a new update will force specific automatic doors to remain open from the start of the match, increase how long automatic doors remain open before they close, and increase the distance a player needs to be from the door before it will automatically open.

One thing yet to be addressed by Treyarch is a controversial scorestreak in Black Ops 7. The Gravemaker, which appears to be one of the most powerful scorestreaks in the game, has the ability to see enemies through walls and one-shot them. Some fans believe it’s in serious need of a nerf, while others believe that it should be overpowered as it’s one of the most expensive scorestreaks in the game. Regardless of opinion, it looks like Treyarch won’t be adjusting it for the beta this weekend.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta Update Patch Notes

Time-to-Kill

Time-to-Kill (TTK) and overall weapon balance has been a conversation we’ve been keeping an eye on, along with evaluating in-game data from day one of the Beta. While we’re starting the Beta with a TTK in the range of Black Ops 6, we’re aware that some players feel it may be slightly faster than desired. As a result, we’ll be releasing a weapon balance pass in the coming days to adjust TTK and ensure all weapons available in the Beta are competitive within both their class and their intended role within Black Ops 7.

We’re excited to get these changes in your hands as we continue to gather feedback and data to ensure our launch lineup of 30 weapons are as balanced and as fun to use as possible.

Doors

While there are no manual doors in any Black Ops 7 Multiplayer maps, only five of our 16 6v6 maps at launch will have automatic doors. With that said, we are closely following the community discussion about doors on our Beta maps and evaluating our launch and post-launch portfolio of maps.

Based on the feedback we’ve already seen in the first 24 hours, we’ll be making the following changes to the Beta in an upcoming update:

  • Forcing specific automatic doors to remain open from the start of the match.
  • Increasing how long automatic doors remain open before they close.
  • Increasing the distance a player needs to be from the door before it will automatically open.
  • Players can still shoot automatic doors to open them.

Changes we are considering for launch and beyond:

  • Evaluating a potential reduction in the number of automatic doors across our entire map portfolio. While some doors may make sense to remove, others may bring about new issues with opening undesired lines of sight. We will share more details as we have them.
  • Adding the ability to disable automatic doors in Private Match for competitive testing.

Weapon XP, Overclock Earn Rates, Spawns, Bug Fixes

We’ve also seen discussion about Weapon XP earn rates and want everyone to be able to unlock and test plenty of attachments during the Beta so you can provide valuable feedback and we can gather important data, so we’re going to help you out there. We’re also doing the same for Overclock earn rates, as well as adjusting our spawn system and knocking out some early bugs.

Planned for tomorrow’s update:

  • Increasing Weapon XP earn rate
  • Increasing Overclock earn rate for several Loadout items and Scorestreaks
  • Adjustments made to spawn logic for improved spawning across several maps and modes
  • Various bug fixes including Weapons

We’ll be sharing more details on the items above when the patch goes live over the weekend. In the meantime, here’s what’s been fixed in today’s update:
